By completing a qualification which is already registered by REPs, you can seamlessly REPs register. These are qualifications that REPs have already verified as meeting the full requirements for registration at the relevant registration level. Simply attach a copy of your qualification certificate to your registration application as proof.

Completing a non-REPs-recognised entry qualification
You will need to complete your qualification before applying to REPs via one of the verification pathways below.

If you have partially completed a qualification we can review the official academic transcript (showing the course components that were completed). You would need to complete one of the verification pathways as outlined below to cover the additional skills, competencies and knowledge for the applicable level. We can give consideration to a provisional registration while you complete this process.

You are looking to register as an Yoga Teacher and hold other REPs Registration levels
With a qualification from a REPs Registered Yoga Yeacher Training Provider or RYT200 qualification you can seemlessly register with REPs by providing a copy of your training certificate with your application. You hold equivalent of 200 hours Yoga Teacher Training but not RYT200 or recognised training
You will be asked to supply evidence of your yoga teacher training with your application and complete the Yoga Teacher Training Verification please see the details on the process below.

You may wish to consider becoming a member of Yoga New Zealand (YogaNZ) – as the membership also includes a REPs Registration as one of the benefits. YogaNZ and REPs are partner organisation to better share resources and benefits of membership and registration. YogaNZ is an association dedicated to the development, nurturing, and support of the yoga profession in Aotearoa.

International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals (ICREPs) Portability
If your qualification/registration is from a ICREPs Partner Country register. Acceptable qualification evidence in digital format (scanned or electronic) can be in the form of one of the following:

• If currently registered overseas – A copy of a full registration certificate.
• If NOT currently registered overseas – A copy of a Letter of International Portability from your country’s register (sometimes a copy of your qualification can assist with becoming registered with NZ REPs but it not always required).

From a country with no International Portability agreement with ICREPs.

Skills Active Aotearoa is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the Exercise industry in NZ. They facilitate the delivery of qualifications (New Zealand Certificates in Exercise) on the job.

The Skills Active qualifications that are recognised are listed on the Initial Qualification page with the applicable level they meet for REPs Registration.

If you are signed on or will be signing on with Skills Active for a qualification to meet the requirements of the level you are applying, we can give consideration to a provisional registration while you complete this process.

If you are operating within a REPs Registered Facility or under the supervision of another REPs registered Exercise Professional these can also be considered for becoming provisionally registered.

REPs intends to consult on a new Pilates Teacher registration level. We can give consideration to a provisional registration based on the Pilates training you have already completed and the registration is only for the delivery of Pilates. Once the new Pilates regsitration levels are finalised, we will outine the process to move the provisional registration to full REPs Registration.

NZ 3-Year University Degree with an Exercise Focus. The REPs Degree Verification Process allows for graduates who have completed a three-year New Zealand exercise focused degree that is not automatically recognised by REPs, to use an independent verification process to meet the qualification requirement to REPs register. There is a fee of $168.00 to cover the cost of this verification process which is payable with your REPs registration application. The REPs registration and verification process involves:

1. Completion of a REPs registration application, submission of your CV (if easily available for you to provide), and qualification(s) and academic transcript(s)
2. The REPs independent assessor will then contact you to complete the assessment process that may include short answer questions, submission of case studies, paperwork samples, references and testimonials etc.
3. A verbal interview (telephone/Skype/Zoom) with the REPs independent assessor.

Please complete the REPs registration application form in full and choose pathway 2 at the Qualification section 6 of the application form.
Importantly, please attach copies of:

-Your current CV (if easily available for you to provide)
-Academic qualification(s) and full academic transcript(s)

Applicable for Group Exercise and Exercise Prescriptions levels – with the exception of Exercise Specialist
This is the REPs process to verify someone who holds underlying qualifications (that are not automatically REPs-recognised) and holds the relevant knowledge skills and competencies for the role of a REPs Registration level.

This process is undertaken with the REPs Independent assessor and is a confirmation of meeting the relevant standards for REPs Registration in order register with REPs. This does have a fee of $168.00 and this pathway is subject to registrar approval once you have applied. When your application is received and payment for the process is confirmed your application will be referred to the independent assessor. An introductory email will be sent to you and the assessor to begin the process.

We can give consideration to a provisional REPs Registration while undertaking this process, as long as all other registration requirements are all meet.

This verification pathway is for a Yoga Teacher who holds knowledge and skill equivalent to a 200 hour type qualification (AND who do not hold a RYT200 qualification), who believe they hold skills and knowledge that match the standards and competencies to perform this role (these are benchmarked by REPs against the RYT200 type qualification which is recognised as the industry standard).

Verification Process Cost –
The standard verification costs is $168 including GST.

Once your verification has been successfully completed, you will meet the full qualification requirements for registration.

Acceptable qualification evidence in digital format (scanned or electronic) can be in the form of one of the following:

– Certificate and transcripts for relevant qualifications/courses attended
– Current resume or Curriculum Vitae to include teaching history (number of years and class record for prior 6-months)
– 2x references (Referees must be a current Yoga Teacher who has completed 500-hours of training).

For Personal Trainer or Exercise Consultant Level registration –
Skills Active is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) For Exercise in NZ. If you provide evidence of meeting the skills and knowledge covered by this qualification (www.skillsactive.org.nz for more details), and you have been working at this level for more than 18 months, then this pathway is available. The cost is $100+GST payable to Skills Active.

This is process of confirming you hold the relevant knowledge and skill towards being issued the New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 4) – which is a REPs Recognised Initial Qualification and would meet the full requirements of REPs Registration when successfully issued to you.

You can contact Skills Active directly as they can assist you with getting signed on or discussing the details of what would be involved. This process would result in you holding a REPs Recognised Initial Qualification for the Exercise Prescription category (with the exception of Exercise Specialist). There is a fee associated with this process but the amount can be confirmed with Skills Active directly.

Currently the process for verification is towards a provisional registration and is considered on a case by case basis based ont he training you have completed.

When REPs have the registration level finalised we will inform all those on the register for Pilates the process for you to move to a full registration.

For REPs Registration at the Exercise Specialist level you will need to hold a New Zealand issued undergraduate degree or equivalent with at least the specific exercise science content as per the Exercise Specialist requirement document. The degree does not necessarily need to be specifically in exercise science; it is acknowledged that many general sport and exercise degrees contain substantial exercise science content even if not obviously apparent in the title of the degree.

REPs would ask for a copy of your official academic transcript (showing course components completed. When your application is received your application will be referred to the independent assessor.

Normally there would be a fee for this verification – however as this is a new registration level this is currently waived.
